As a person who commonly restores Ponies (from every generation) I have to take care of the hair a lot! I've seen Pony hair in a lot of shapes, from being just perfect, to just frizzy and dirty. But sometimes the hair can already be a mess when I take Ponies out of their packaging and sometimes I just don't like the way it looks. So today I'm gonna show you the basic way on how I style my Ponies hair. This is one of the easiest methods out there and it's just a very good way to just show your Ponies with some nicely styled hair. :)

As for my 2 test subjects I'm gonna use my Rainbow Shimmer Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. Both arrived her last Friday and I got them off Ebay, as you can see, their hair is a really big mess! I'm not gonna display them like that! So we are just gonna give them some nicely styled hair. Note that this is not a tutorial on how to make their hair look as in the show. This is just a basic styling guide. There will be perhaps show accurate Tutorials in the future.

Well, now for the tools you need. You actually need not much! Here are the things I'm gonna use:
- Shampoo (optional)
- Conditioner
- A comb (any kind can do but I prefer a metal one)
- Rubber bands

You can pick any shampoo or conditioner you like. I just use the ones I use myself. I like to work with a metal comb because they are much more durable then plastic ones.

So first I decide to shampoo their hair. It is optional but I like to use it because it just smells good. I always use this on second hand Ponies for reasons but for Ponies that come straight out of the packaging you can make some exceptions. After shampooing here you can rinse it out.

This should be a good amount to use.

Comb it trough.
Now I'm gonna get my conditioner and get some into the hair. Just spread the conditioner trough the hair and then get your comb. For some reason Conditioner is a great way to remove tangles. Just start at the end of the hair and comb all the way to her head. As you can feel the tangles get removed really easily. Also don't worry if some hair starts to come loose. This can be quite common for Ponies straight from their box. And it's always less then you expect. It's also possible that some of the strands are much longer then the others. I just like to cut those off to make her hair egal. After combing trough her hair. Leave her like this for 10-15 minutes before rinsing her out. For Ponies with much more worse hair (like really frizzy) I leave the conditioner in for 10+ hours.

Luna as well.
After some waiting you can rinse the conditioner out. As you can feel the hair feels really smooth. Now get your rubber bands ready. First of all make sure that the hair is still wet. Separate the hair in different sections and make sure to comb trough them. Now for this method you actually don't need curlers. Your Pony has already their own section of curlers. That's right it's their body.

I choose 3 but you can make as much separate sections as you like.
Get a section of the hair and curl it around your Pony. You can curl it around their neck, wings, head, horn and legs. Since the legs of the Rainbow Shimmer ones are attached to each other it was kinda hard to curl the hair around their legs. So I decided to curl their hair around their head and neck/wings. Sometimes the hair will stay into place but sometimes it's easy to use rubber bands.

Repeat this for all the strands you made and then let the Pony dry overnight. You need to remove the bands when the hair is completely dry. If you live in a sunny country you can also put them outside to dry. On a hot sunny day they will dry really quick!

When the hair is dry carefully move the hair and remove the rubber bands. You can also cut them off. And look at those nice curls! It can still be a bit messy but you can decide to comb trough the hair to give it more volume. You can vary a lot were to curl the hair. I use the legs most of the time. You can also decide to curl the hair around pencils or use real hair curlers. You can also use hair pins and a straw for curlers. I will probably make a tutorial about that technique later. As for now, have fun using this technique and good luck! Feel free to share your results.

The CMC and Sunset Shimmer were also styled using this method.

    1. You can decide not to curl the hair around the body and just leave her to dry with wet straight hair down. :)

  4. Thanks for the tips! I style all my ponies hair as show accurate as possible because I have a YouTube channel where I use the brushables to make videos. I haven't styled my Octavia, Diamond Tiara or Derpy (I haven't styled Mrs Cake either, but her frizzy mane turned into really neat curs so I'm not going to do anything to her) and they look really frizzy at the moment!
