My Little Pony: A Maretime Bay Adventure Video Game Coming May 27

Better late than never! We've been so buys the past weeks that we weren't able to properly post about some big news: My Little Pony G5 is getting their own PC / console game soon: A Maretime Bay Adventure.

G2 and G3 both saw official game releases PC and/or handheld game consoles, but unless the popularity of the 4th generation, Hasbro never released one for Friendship is Magic. Aside from Flash and mobile games, aswell as unofficial fan projects, the last My Little Pony video game was Pinkie Pie's Party on the Nintendo DS from 2008. With A Maretime Bay Adventure that streak will come to an end after 14 years.

Published by Outright Games, this new game will bring the mane 5 ponies from My Little Pony: A New Generation to PC, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and Xbox One in a 3D platformer. Main part of the game is controlling Sunny Starscout throughout Maretime Bay. Other ponies will join in several mini-games, which also features two-player local multiplayer games.

And while we normally wouldn't post about digital-only items, A Maretime Bay Adventure is confirmed to have a physical release across platforms, as well as digital downloads. The official release for the beforementioned platforms will be May 27, with a free upgrade to Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions coming later this year. Target has listings up for the Switch, Playstation and Xbox version, but without any pre-order details/bonusses. We hope to get more details on that soon, as well as more listings.

Below we have the official announcement as well as several screenshots of the game. On the Outright Games website you can also find the first trailer for the game. Thanks to Andrew for the heads-up!

  1. Licensed games are seldom good. Mediocre at best.

    1. Didn't seem to pay attention to the current lore either, because Sunny misses her new look with the rainbow streaks post-movie, there's still anti-unicorn and pegasi devices active all over Maretime Bay, yet pegasi can fly again.

What's this? Jumping on things? Picking things up? Any semblance of fun? Did they finally get the memo that most MLP toys are for ages 3 and up? It seems like something that could actually be considered a game, which is more than you can say for most games bearing the MLP license!

Take the DS game, Pinkie Pie's Party. Why anyone thought it was worth a whole cartridge is beyond me. The difficulty of its minigames is geared for children too young to properly operate a DS stylus- who wants to sort twelve crayons into three groups by their color? The game makes you find every "hidden" object in a specific order, with only the current target being available to find and its location being marked clearly on the map; even with that being unnecessarily dragged out, it takes less than an hour to do absolutely everything in the game (which includes finding presents/puzzle pieces, unwrapping the presents, doing the puzzle, playing every minigame on every difficulty). The number one complaint in its reviews is that it's so short that their kids beat it in one sitting and never played it again. It's still better than the similarly-named Pinkie Pie's Party Parade for the PC, though, but so is drowning in a septic tank, so that's hardly a plus.

I think it's safe to assume this game will be better than most video games in the whole horse franchise. It looks worth a single playthrough, at least. I hope it's good, but I'm going to stay cautiously optimistic. (I hope the music isn't as bad as that, though!)

  3. I know I’m a little late, but I’m saying that I guess this game is alright. I’m glad the mlp franchise is finally releasing a video-game based on mlp, it’s it also creates more excitement for a new generation for mlp with a video game being released right after the movie, but on the other hand, I think their promoting mlp too much nowadays. Even though mlp a maretime bay adventure is different, it’s still having the same context as all other mlp games. This game obviously shows the same thing, saving magic and collecting things. I was honestly expecting something a little different, but I’m not hating on this game. It’s still about saving equestria, in this case, saving equestria from injustice, but we can all admit it’s a new experience to play. But I’m saying that their promoting mlp too much because why do a full-length Movie, a game that includes cgi,(since cgi takes lots of time to animate with), and start working on TWO new series all in the same year? Since the series weren’t released until last year, we all remember hearing about how they are working on new things. I can already feel that it’s enough work for them having to use cgi so much. When I first heard about g5 I thought they would use 2d animation for everything, just like traditionally, but I gotta say that cgi makes a new experience which is fun, that’s the reason it wa sin vented in the first place at all. But using cgi for almost every promo , movie, etc., it’s amlot of work. But I can’t really blame them, they can do what they want, I just wanted to spread my opinion.
