JCPenney Releases Exclusive Friends & Foe Set With Queen Chrysalis
Exactly 10 months ago a mysterious Queen Chrysalis popped up on AliExpress, together with a brushable of Sandbar. While the latter has long been released, the changeling queen with updated eyes wasn't seen again. Until now, as JCPenney released their first My Little Pony exclusive, that includes the Queen Chrysalis figure!
She's combined with the complete mane 6, all with the same pose as the Reboot Series singles and School of Friendship Equestria Friends, being it without any accessories. Other than that the box itself is pretty basic, with the regular border and a green background. The back of the box shows an angry mane 6 and Queen Chrysalis. It retails for $29.99
While this release may not bring any new mold or characters to the shelves, it's good to see that JCPenney is also invested in releasing exclusive My Little Pony stuff, as Toys"R"Us is no longer able to release these lines in the US. I don't expect a large line of, let's say Ponymania, to come from JCPenney, but it's s slightly bigger chance at getting new releases nonetheless.
(Thanks to Erik for the info & photos!)

    3. Right?? I'm so tired of the same releases of the mane six. Honestly, much as I love the show I'm itching for G5 at this point. Then we can have new, interesting releases. Cutie Mark Crew is the only interesting thing to come out of 2018/2019.

    4. Just. Let. THEM. HAVING. THEIR. ENDING!!! THE S9 IS THE FINAL ONE. LET THESE SIX MARES HAVING THE CONCLUSION THEY DESERVE AND THEN YOU'RE FREE TO DO WHATEVER YOU DO, BUT FIRST LET THEM HAVING THEIR STORY ENDING AND DON'T WHINE ABOUT IT!

    5. I see where you're coming from, truly I do, however this favoritism of characters has gotten extremely out of hand. The Mane 6 are symbols of my transition from childhood to becoming an adult, I've gotten to know these group of friends as if they were real. I owe a lot to MLP in general, and I'll never stop loving them. The Mane 6 are near and dear to my heart and no matter what I'll cherish them for as long as I'm alive. That being said, the MLP 2017 reboot has killed any enthusiasm I've had for the merchandise side of MLP. Twilight Sparkle is one of my favorite characters in any entertainment media I've consumed, and I have a lot of love for her but...I already have a Twilight doll. In fact, I have 11. I have 15 Pinkie Pie's, 13 Rainbow Dash's, 8 Rarity's, 6 Fluttershy's and 10 Applejack's. This is just in brushable form alone, do you know how many more pieces of merchandise I have with those characters only? A lot. That's how much. I see where Hasbro is coming from with this marketing strategy, seeing as this is the very first My Little Pony generation that left behind characters who have truly made a mark on pop culture as a whole. Can the average consumer tell you who Firefly is? Probably not. Can they tell you who Rainbow Dash is? Of course they can. This being said, I would really appreciate it if Hasbro threw the supporting characters who also make the show great a bone as well. They copped out on 1/4th of the Student Six. I don't like the Student Six at all, but there are a lot of people who do. They only made 2 of the actual characters because they were the easiest to make. I really do miss the days where Hasbro took risks and made characters unique to the toyline. Sure, the brony fandom rioted when they didn't make background ponies from the show, but at least it wasn't another Mane 6 release. I understand the reason to keep making Mane 6 toys, but this is really ridiculous.

  2. I love the show, and I'm disappointed with how little the toyline represents it. The show has a huge cast of diverse characters, and the toyline just keeps releasing the same 6 characters over and over again.

    1. Agree so hard. The only line where other ponies get representation are the bindbags. And even then they're just repainted versions of the mane 6. We've had the updated Flutteryshy mold for how many years now? And they've only used it as another pony ONCE. (I do love that variant of Sunshower Raindrops tho...) Like Hasbro COME ON. The pearlized brushables was the last time we got any variety outside the mane six.

    2. The S9 is the final one. Just let these characters having their ending without having a temper tantrum... PLEASE?!

      Delete
    3. Meta X I think you're the one throwing a temper tantrum, you're criticizing everyone for having a desire of new characters, this of which isn't being fulfilled. It makes sense people are upset. And yes, there is only 1 season left. This is why people are upset. It leaves us with such a short amount of time to get characters that we've come to know and love, aside from the mane six, especially if the only mane six we're getting are repeats of previous releases.

As a fan of the show, I personally don't mind the idea of re-releasing the mane six. My problem is that they never get any of them right. We haven't had a twilight with navy blue hair in the brushable pony line. Not a single rainbow with a fully rainbow mane and tail. None of them have correctly traced show eye designs. Not once have we gotten any of them with 2 cutie marks. Their representations of the mane six in toy forms are a disappointment, and to have these take up over 90% of the toyline is just sad. This is why people hate mane six re-releases and look forward to the background ponies instead.

I agree that we should leave the mane six in the spotlight for the finale, but the show was not just built up on them. The mane six moved forwards with their lessons from other ponies aside from only themselves and these ponies deserve to get some spotlight before time is up.

    4. @Sketched Crow Big agree, though we have gotten a Rainbow with a full mane ONCE, the Shadowbolt Toys R Us exclusive from 2013. But that in itself is also disappointing, since it proves that it CAN be done but Hasbro's too lazy to make it happen/spend enough to make the characters look accurate to their screen representations. Every time Hasbro tries to make "show accurate" versions of the characters they always cut corners and things fall short, such as the recent Meet The Mane 6 set having cutie marks on one side and Rainbow only having 4 colors in her mane when Funko and many other licensed producers have proven time and time again that YOU CAN HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO. Hasbro is just...yikes fam.

      P.S. I love ur Instagram <3 <3

  3. It's really disheartening to see yet another release of "Posed Mane 6 Reboot Brushables! Set Oh, and the random other pony of the week" when there are so many characters in this franchise's lore and world they could be making. This is G4's last big bang and they're still clinging onto the characters who sure, made the franchise what it is today, but who are also the ones who have been made 1000000 times over. I miss the HasbrOC's. They brought so much flavor to the series.

  4. I am so tired of these six characters. I am gonna cry if G5 goes the same route... and it sounds like it may. RIP MLP.

    1. Considering that G3 was also like that, it's pretty safe to assume that G5 also will be.

    2. They will but itll be worse because itll be stupid redesigned and rehashed mane 6 but different species. I love the g4 show. I want people to fight for G4 to stay around and get the variety of new character brushables it deserves and that we've been begging for for years. Emailing hasbro like I am and saying that there was nothing new ponywise that you bought or wanted for Christmas because they're all the same character you already have 15 of is a great start. I think if enough people did this the situation would improve.

  5. I'm not at all tired of the Mane Six but I am pretty tired of hearing people whine about consistent releases of them. They're the freaking focal point of the show! Yes, this set could use some extra characters like Starlight, Trixie, etc. and I do wish that they would make more of a variety of plushies but nobody's forcing us to buy these against our will. If you don't like it, don't spend money on it. But don't whine when the MAIN characters of the show are being treated as the MAIN characters of the show. What's next? Are we gonna complain when toys for Avengers: Endgame are released next year? Complain about yet another variation of Iron Man, or Captain America, or Thor? How about when yet another variation of Woody or Buzz Lightyear are released for Toy Story 4? No reason to hate characters just for being the focal point of the show. That being said, I'm off to JC Penney.

    2. I guess you are giving your opinion about MLP based only on the show. But MLP used to be more than a cartoon.
The reason that we are “whining” is because we have been collecting MLP waay before Friendship is Magic, and FYI this line was all about collecting the different ponies, with different simbols (not cutie marks) and body and hair colors. It used to be a “gotta catch em all” before Hasbro started this mane seven trend with the 3.5 g 🤫

    3. Your point would be valid if My Little Pony was a media-focused franchise with toys being released on the side, but it isn't. It's a toy-focused franchise with a show on the side. The toys have always been the focus of MLP, and up until Hasbro made the terrible decision to do the Core 7 in G3's last year or so, had a focus on having a wide variety of different ponies to collect, but ever since late G3's Core 7, we've been drowning in rereleases of the same ponies with not many new ponies coming out. It's frustrating to see a toyline that used to have a lot of variety in characters start to churn out the same ponies over and over again. We only need so many of the same ponies, we don't need 20 of the same character. G4 is better in this regard than the last year or two of G3, but there's still too many Mane 6 releases compared to other ponies. It'd be one thing if Hasbro were just putting out one set of the Mane 6 a year and that was it, but it's much more extreme than that. It makes G4s significantly less fun to collect when there's a much smaller variety of ponies coming out.

The only time I really buy new G4s is if it's a new character, a character being brought into G4.5 mold for the first time, or if I like a gimmick enough to buy a version of a Mane 6 pony (such as pearlized ponies, I admit I'm a sucker for pearlized coats on ponies regardless of character). Otherwise, I skip a huge chunk of pony releases because I don't need that many versions of the same pony. I do have a lot of Mane 6 releases regardless however from thrifting, and the fact that I have so many despite only thrifting different versions and not keeping exact doubles is ridiculous.

Anyway, MLP isn't like the other franchises and toys you mentioned. Those are all examples of franchises where the focus are the movies, and toys are released to promote the movies. MLP is the exact opposite in which the focus are the toys, and the show is there simply to promote the toyline, just as it was with G1's cartoons and G3's direct to VHS/DVD movies. But this time instead of having a little show to promote a toyline with a wide variety of characters, we have a show with a wide variety of characters promoting a toyline that's releasing the same characters over and over. FiM has *so many* characters that Hasbro could be making into toys, but aren't. It's super frustrating to see MLP doing this, and I hope they do better with the next generation. Rereleasing the main characters to have them always on the shelf for new fans is one thing, but taking it to the extreme Hasbro does is unnecessary.

  6. I have nothing against the mane 6 getting multiple releases, but for the past year or so now, they and the princesses have been the ONLY characters released. I already have 10+ variants of each mane character - meanwhile, Moondancer STILL hasn't gotten a single brushable release, and that's just naming one character. Up until recently, it was well balanced, with mane 6 rereleases AND new characters, but since the reboot, it's been virtually nothing but the mane 6, and occasionally another character, usually a character we've seen before or a store-exclusive in a big set that requires you to buy even MORE mane 6. I still love the mane 6 as characters, but this is just ridiculous. I wouldn't mind more releases of them, so long as we get other characters as well to balance things out. There's just... so many cool characters who've never gotten a brushable release.

  7. I don't think the true problem is that Hasbro is re-releasing the mane six. They should always be available as a new crop of kids is growing into pony every year. The issue is Hasbro is ONLY releasing the mane six, princesses, crusaders, and Starlight.

There should not be four different Pinkie Pie's on the store shelf vying for a child's attention at the same time. A parent (in his or her right mind) is only going to buy one and once a kid has a full collection of 13 ponies, no further purchase is required.

The show is essentially a big toy commercial featuring a number of different ponies. It boggles my mind that Hasbro invests all that money in promoting characters like the pillars, Sunburst, Moondancer, etc. and then never "cashes out." They've already done the marketing. Buyers are ready!

There are 680 characters in the Gameloft game. Certainly Hasbro could replace at least two of those Pinkies with something new. *rant over*

  9. Yes, again the Drama of the internet for something that is totally "silly".
I have some questions for all those people who complain as much as if their lives depended on this.

first one: Barbie has years in the market, the classic that everyone knows, but to date, Mattel has sold the "same" doll all these years, the SAME; Despite the fact that more characters have appeared in the world of Barbie, to date, Barbie is still on the shelves with almost no changes, why are not there so many complaints about this?, why is it still popular?

second question: Did you know, those who complain, that Hasbro "IS" a company of "TOYS" and My Little Pony "IS" a line of toys, a dedicated line for girls (and children, and ok, adults, why not?) as the first point; Why do not think first to whom is directed in the first point these products? Please, some of you are worse than the people who want Nintendo to develop (and devote) mature video games, seriously, their complaints are very pathetic, and, really, annoying...

But, oh well, already post my complaint, continue with your usual complaints...
    *sigh*

    1. First off, Barbie is the mascot of HER OWN franchise. Obviously she will be the "center doll" being produced, so your argument there is invalid. In fact, I've seen Barbie fans have desires for more of her, and less of other characters. They too have a mirroring issue to ours when it comes to consumer demands.

Second - Yes the show is for little girls, but tell me. When have you ever met a girl who hasn't gotten tired of the same character over and over again with nothing different from previous releases? Children, just like adults, value variety and this should be kept in mind when creating these toys, otherwise people will stop buying and it would have been Hasbro's fault for the demise of MLP FIM, for not meeting consumer demands of variety. Repackaged figures do not count as variety.

Please learn about economics and consumers before criticizing people who have greater demands than your own party.

    2. As I expected, the first person who does not like to be criticized arrived.

      First, everything is a question of preferences, it is normal that something has an audience and others are not that audience, and of course, a "constructive" criticism or a complaint with consent is valid; however, this to the whole show you see in this topic is a huge and ridiculous difference; Hey, the topic is to inform us of the product that is seen and of course, the comments are to give an opinion, but not to start a drama like these, seriously, it is not this issue, they are VARIOUS that simply do the same things, simply it seems that NOTHING pleases them;

Ok, you have your "standards", but, just the simple thing, if you do not like it, move on to something else; I have had experiences with things that have changed to something that I do not like and I simply decide to stop following them, I don´t make a drama in ""every"" topic, video, post related to that just to say that something I do not like; once or twice, ok, all the time?, is Seriously? it's annoying, really it's annoying; and as a fact, yes, it's the internet, but seriously, even for something as quiet as toys for all is the subject of fights and drama?, seriously?, it's ridiculous.

and yes, I know the differences between economics and consumer preferences (let's not start with fights) because in the end everything is related, but I do not mention more because this goes for long.

      Delete
    3. ok, I have time, let's see about economics and consumer preferences:

first, to start, it is not easy to design a toy that is attractive to the main public, if you think that the "fans" are that main audience, you are wrong, because the biggest profits are given by the children (the parents of the children , that many are not fans) that do not have much interest if the toy is very detailed and expensive, the only thing they want is to make it nice for them and fun, that's all.

Second, I see that some of you complain because they are always the same 6 and one another also very well known; that they should use other characters that, as mentioned in another post, are more than 250 characters, enough to have variety; nevertheless, here comes the good thing, if Hasbro put on sale new sets where some of those 250 characters that are not the main 6 appeared, do you think they would sell enough to satisfy the profits that Hasbro needs to move forward? that will sell what is necessary to recover the investment ?, believe me I would like to say that YES, but, really, not always, and that is simply because, as I mentioned at the beginning, the main consumers are children, which are more fond of the main characters than any secondary character that existed, therefore, on the day of sales the shelves will be occupied more of the secondary characters than of the main characters; that means losses for Hasbro, because the investment for secondary characters does not recover, or maybe yes, but no profits, and for a company, not making profits is not at all useful; yes, they could invest and take risks to make toys of those secondary characters, but those developments have a cost and therefore, if you are in that situation they would decide, remember, money in business is not a children's game.

And for this last, you think it's easy to sell something, earn a lot and be the preference of "ALL"? I'm sorry, but no; and we should not blame anyone (neither consumers nor the company) or bother us, and in this case, for Hasbro, why make these decisions is not easy for a company, and more if you want to have both your investors and workers happy to your fans and consumers; but well, that's what I think and see why this; yes, I will not change your opinion and your preferences, and I know that these new designs are not to your liking and I will not change your mind, it is your decision and I totally respect you, but please, be understanding and take things with calm.

  10. I've been a collector of so many different kinds of things for so long, and am such a packrat, and live with people who also collect tons of stuff, that it's almost kind of a relief to learn that there's only one more season of pony, and that the most recent products have nearly all been boring mane six after mane six. (Getting to be the same on Quidd, which is an ingenious concept but has numerous flaws and neglects loads of cool characters in favor of redundant, indistinguishable mane-six filler sets.) It's been a terrific eight years of pony, I must say. I absolutely adore my awesome collection...so, so many great characters in all different forms.
Haven't heard a word about a "G5," but in a way I'd hope it just a rumor. I actually hadn't been a pony fan as a kid because I wasn't one of the horse-obsessed 90s girls; I love them, but for me it's dogs. And fish. The MLP colors appealed to me (Lisa Frank is my favorite artist ever), but it wasn't until G4 that the designs really did (I guess because they're generally more slender and elegant and somewhat doggish.)

  11. Ah.... guys, I ask you to be considerated when the series finale airs next year, because whatever your current position on the show is, the Mane 6 are still its pulsing cores, so just like any other series finale, it WILL be focused on them, that you like the idea or not. So just make a deal with that and enjoy for what it will be... otherwise get lost.
