My Little Pony Fluttershy Potion Dress-Up

UPDATE: Rarity has also been found! A very interesting find for this morning! Amazon Canada has listed two new figures of Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy. (although the Pinkie Pie images got listed under a Rarity listing) But as you can see things look very... different.

This line is called Potion Dress-up and has the characters come with several accessories to dress them up. But I think the most prominent feature is the fact that these two look TOTALLY different than the brushables we know. But that leaves us with once question... is this the Design for generation 5? Or is this a smaller stand-alone line before G5? The release date for these is January 1 2020... Note that there is a 5 on the packaging but that stands for 5 surprise accessories since it has question marks next to it. The logo is also still the G4 one only with different colors and it's still the Mane Six from Generation 4. They could also be the design for the upcoming (CGI) Movie which seems logical seeing as the Logo is still the same as well as the characters.

The listings also still state Friendship is Magic in there description but most of the time these aren't the final descriptions and they could just be simple placeholders.

Still this is something very, very interesting. What do you think? What do you think of the designs? They look really different although I quite like em.
Have the listings below!
Thanks to Kevin for the heads up!

  3. They do look interesting , Hasbro is definitely experimenting new models for the ponies I don’t think these will be the G5 designs as Hasbro may want to move away from making another friendship is magic type series. Maybe they were trying to make theses ponies look more “realistic” (due to the hooves looking different from other G4 toys) or even kawaii prehaps?

  4. I like the bodies, very nice. But the heads and face?? wtaf are they meant to be? They actually horrify me, like they are crazy horses that lost their minds many years ago and howl at the moon on a clear night. Horrible.

  5. I like them, but the big head/big ear combo reminds me of... Cats?

  8. Whether or not G5, the designs are quite curious, beautiful but at the same time rare, but, well, Hasbro likes to experiment with new character designs, although we remember that those of the G4 were designed by Lauren Faust, especially the series animated that ended, therefore, these "new" designs have to vary a bit.
and as I mentioned, if it is G5 or not, we still cannot know, Hasbro has not officially said the situation to the franchise, how will the G5 be, and how will be the animated series that accompanies it, therefore we only have to wait and see .

    1. "It seems" to confirm that it is not G5, it is just a new line of dolls that have a new design (I think something similar to how it was with Equestria Girls minis figures, those of the design in only 4 characters)

  9. I think these are really cute! The heads could be smaller to fit the bodies but the design is really interesting.

  12. According to Equestria Daily, these are not G5 toys. These are basically like G3.5 ones.

    1. Still trying to do these “half-generations” is really not working in Hasbro’s favour. The G3 looked cute and normal but the G3.5 just look ugly almost like an experiment. same with the G4.5 they had the same problems as the G3.5. These new ones could be some kind of spin of to the G4.5 as they look experimental to new body types and face models.

    2. The brushables look very similar to the new shorts series by Boulder that was announced a while ago and has https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLa8CAQKH-4 as first short.

  13. I think they’re kinda cute actually...maybe Hasbro is trying for a Gen 4.5, like 3.5 was a thing.

  14. What kind of a sick person would put a cat head on a horse's body

  15. They look horrifying! The first brushables remains my favs! These third ones a creepy, they second ones have ballon heads and weirdly flat legs that looks ridiculous! The only real thing the second and third ones seems to have going is that they are ekspressive... Though I'm I the only one getting weird furby vipes from these ones heads? Their snouts are kinda furby beak like, and the ears don't help.

  16. Thank you for the information. I think they should change their name to My Little Kitty as these look more like cats than ponies.

  17. What on earth is going on with the back legs? Standing horses do not use their knees like that. It's deer-like with the angle of the knee more than anything equine. And why are they more anime? I've seen better designs from indie artists.

There are small parts that are nice, but I wasn't a whole fan of the design of G4 as it was because the head sculpt looks a lot less of equine structure. The muzzle wasn't square enough. Now with the balloon heads, arched muzzle and oversized ears, they look a lot less of a horse- a feline head on a deer body. The nostrils don't help aesthetically, either.

They could do so much with CGI (in regards to any upcoming movie or possible direct-to-disk shorts, which Hasbro is notorious for using their media to sell their toys in the last 3 decades...), like fix the initial design so they are more horse-like since they can toe into uncanny valley.

Then again, I am thinking more as an adult collector, not as a child that would cry and scream at not having a new pony regardless of how anime it looks. Some kids just don't care. I nope'd out of G3 half way through because of how lackluster the toys became being over-saturated with the same annoying characters.

With G4 having more adult collectors of the toys than ever it makes me wonder what kind of "market testing" was done. Not all collectors are going to buy new stuff just because it has a familiar logo slapped on it.

  19. Personally, I love these designs. I've followed MLP since Generation 2 was the current gen, and while I absolutely love the the characters and many of the stories and world of G4, I never have liked the style of it.It's very round, very chibi, very cutesy, and I'm a much bigger fan of angular designs, which this gives. Not to mention... THEY HAVE HORSE LEGS. AND FEATHERS. That's a heck of a YES from me! I like the muzzles more as well, they're quite boxy and from a side view are a bit more like horse muzzles than we've seen from FiM.

That's not to say there aren't things I dislike about them, of course. They have very wide heads to make way for very forward-facing eyes which isn't at all like a horse or pony. Generally predators like us have forward-facing eyes, prey like horses have outward-facing eyes and it's something most gens have generally paid respect to. I do really enjoy the eye shapes themselves though! It looks like these figures are significantly larger than FiM's usual size as well, which was another complaint I've had about the FiM figures, so that's a welcome upgrade too.

These designs do look a lot more like the G5 designs that got leaked quite a long time ago now, even with the added white in Rarity's hair and the feathers on their hooves. It would be very interesting either way, if this is the style of the new movie or the new generation. They've done at least one .5 gen before, I wouldn't be too surprised if they did it again.

    1. A small clarifier: When I say they have horse legs I do realize that the legs are highly exaggerated. They're just exaggerated in a style I have always strongly preferred. It much more strongly highlights the back leg joints, which can make it a lot more natural for us humans to understand what the heck is happening when they're moving them. (I have genuinely felt bad for many novice artists when I've seen them struggling to understand the way FiM ponies' mush city leg designs work and where the joints were supposed to be.)

I used to use a similar style for the legs in my own artwork. I've since moved to something a lot more realistic, but done right I still absolutely adore this kind of leg design.
