Tomy Buildable MLP Vinyls
These figures are quite unknown. Even in the United States. I myself knew of their existence and saw them for the first time in a picture on the MLPArena and I was like ... ehhh? Anyway if you suddenly see them in a Gachapon Machine in Europa Park in Germany, you of course get thrilled and try to get as much 2 euro coins to slam into the machine. These things are rare, and uhm ... not exactly the most beautiful figures around...

The figures are sold in 2 ways:

- Through a Gachapon machine, for 2 euro's you can get one figure. The color of the ball immediately shows who is inside of it:

White - Rarity
Yellow - Fluttershy
Blue - Rainbow Dash
Red - Pinkie Pie
Orange - Applejack
Green - Twilight Sparkle

Well after the 4th time to have drawn a Applejack I started to skip the machines with lots of orange balls in it.

And the 2nd way to obtain is through bags. A disadvantage is that they are not visible and more packaged like Blind Bags, unless you have a flashlight shining underneath and you can see the color trough the plastic and perhaps you can make out which Pony is inside. I managed to complete my collection and I decided to review them.

In general, the figures rather weird... but might be up to now the most accurate ones. The reason ? Applejack has actually a hat , AND they have cutie marks on both sides. Well done Tomy. Furthermore, the hair is made of solid plastic and the bodies of soft vinyl , so you can squeeze into them. You can swap also the manes and tails. But actually only the tails. The manes are kinda molded into the shape of the body, and since they all have different body shapes... you get the idea.

And let's review them each right now!

Applejack Tomy Buildable MLP Vinyl Figure

Applejack

Seems like they finally did it . An Applejack figure with a hat! Does this make the figure look good? Well... You have to insert her mane into her head. But because the vinyl is so soft it wont stay attached very well. With the result that a small movement can make the mane fall off. The tail attaches well, just the tip insert into the hole on the back of AJ. The paint job is clean , no problems but her face lacks freckles, but you can paint those on very easily with just some white paint. The body itself is rather strangely sculpted and really does not make sense when compared to the body they have in the show.

Pinkie Pie Tomy Buildable MLP Vinyl Figure

Pinkie Pie

Pinkie Pie ? Everything okay? Oh dear, you do not really look like your happy self. They really did a very bad job at sculpting her head. Where is that sweet smile of hers? Her hair is also not looking great. Too short and not puffy, her tail has the same problem as well. The hair is just too thin and even a little bit too dark. A good point: The mane remains in place. Furthermore, the body is strange again but be prepared. Everyone is gonna have this problem. Furthermore, a good paint job, but I think Pinkie Pie is the worst one of the six.

Rainbow Dash Tomy Buildable MLP Vinyl Figure

Rainbow Dash

Rainbow Dash, please don't be also sad like Pinkie! But I think I already know the reason for her depression. They totally got her mane colors wrong! No orange, no yellow. Only Red / Purple and Green and a VERY little bit of blue, and these are also the only colors in her tail. Nothing Rainbow so... We call you in this review now just "Dash". Furthermore, the paint job is done pretty good as usual. No paint flaws. The wings fit into the body nicely and mane clamps between the body and the wings, so the mane doesn't fall of most of the times. So except for the use of color for the mane.. Dash is not bad.

Fluttershy Tomy Buildable MLP Vinyl Figure

Fluttershy

Alright on to the better figures . Fluttershy looks very good. Cute little head and just like Rainbow Dash does her mane stay well into place between her body and wings. This is definitely one of the better figures in this set . Although the body is still very strange.

Rarity Tomy Buildable MLP Vinyl Figure

Rarity

Rarity is best pony! Or Twilight ... I can not decide . Rarity looks nice , the pose is well done , only downside is she weight a lot at her head. So the figure falls down very easily. So you need to place her tail like that that her body can lift on it well. Her mane is a little too short but not so short that it is truly annoying as Pinkie. The only problem here can be that her soft body can make her hair fall off easily.

Twilight Sparkle Tomy Buildable MLP Vinyl Figure

Twilight Sparkle

Yes she is still a Unicorn here , but that doesn't matter. Twilight has a good looking face . Better then as shown on the pamphlet that came with her. She stays well into place in this position in comparison with Rarity. You still need to place the tail like that that the body can lift on it. She also has the problem with her hair falling off but you can always fix it with a little bit of glue.

And that was all six of them. Now let's rank them from best to worst:

- Twilight
- Rarity
- Fluttershy
- Applejack
- Rainbow Dash
- Pinkie Pie

Conclusion

If you're a fan of show accurate toys, you better skip these. However if you just like to collect random merch and see them: Go for it! For 2-3 euro's they are a bargain.

  3. Well, I like them, they are kind of (derpy) cute. ^^ I bought one bag today, it's price was a little bit less than 2$, and I love my (derpy) AJ. <3
I'm not sure if I want all of them, but Fluttershy is definitely my second "must have".
