My Little Pony: Pony Life Series Coming 2020 - Product Line Officially Announced
After a teaser campaign on Instagram the news is now officially out: My Little Pony will return to Discovery Family in 2020 with a brand new animated series called Pony Life.
The new TV-series will feature new chibi-style animations, done by Hasbro's own Allspark Animation, and the mane 6 and their voice actors from Friendship is Magic will return for this series.
The show will center around Sugarcube Corner, Pinkie Pie and mysterious potions in a Slice of Life setting. Aside from the main TV-show the My Little Pony YouTube channel will continue to release exclusive shorts.

Accompanying the fresh new style is a completely redesigned toy line, which we've already see some reveals of in the past week, like the single brushables and Potion Dress-Up figures. Hasbro released an announcement video today showing that the brushables feature moving heads, almost like the Littlest Pet Shop bobble heads. That same trailer also reveals a Rainbow Dash brushable, which we haven't seen among the product listings before.
And today officially marks the release date of these figures on Amazon as a debut channel. In-store releases can be expected later this year, and for Canada in 2020 Toys"R"Us will be the exclusive retailer, according to Hasbro's press statement.
My Little Pony: Pony Life Mane 6 Figures

Below you'll find the official statement on both the My Little Pony: Pony Life series and the product line with Magical Mane Rarity and Potion Ponies below.

Personal note: The big question for us as a merch-oriented website is how we're interpreting this big news in regards to the My Little Pony generations. Our current opinion is that the combination of a new show, new style and same main cast as Friendship is Magic makes this Generation 4.5. What are your thoughts?

  1. It definitely seems like a 4.5 to me. I'm getting major deja vu from the release of 3.5.

  2. Oh dear...good thing I don't need any more mane six after nearly a decade now of ponying. I hate chibis. They're cute for a hot minute, but what I loved about the G4 designs was their...I mean, not *realism*, but plausibility. I like more believable, less cartoony cartoons. The doodlier they look, the harder it is to take them seriously. On the other hand, I've never been a fan of the hoof-hair. And noooo, not the oversized heads again. The original Littlest Pet Shops were amazing. I have a few of the new ones and they constantly fall over (and HURT when they land on your danged foot.) Anyway, I guess that's "4.5," but I hope it's just little shorts. Love the G4 style and would strongly prefer a series using as characters all the gorgeous blind bag & brushable ones who never made it in (or in any meaningful way.)

    1. You'll probably never see another cast other than the main six in your lifetime given how lazy post-takeover Hasbro has been.

  8. This seems more like a new generation, considering they altered the g4 brushables towards the end of the generation. Larger heads, eyes printed on a flat surface instead of a raised eye, different hair material, thinner legs, etc. I would consider the my little pony movie figures and brushables as g4.5, and these new pony life brushables as g5.

  9. Those faces are weiiiiird. And the little we saw from the animation makes me think Teen Titans Go. Also we have the same main 6 again, so... why even reboot?

  10. Honestly I kind of like them?? I'm definitely not a huge fan of new art style, but I think the brushables are pretty cute

  11. I'm glad the Mane 6 are here to stay. I don't want them going anywhere, these are the characters I like. I don't want them thrown away for new characters for the sake of new characters.

  12. Personally I consider this G5, with G4.5 being the Reboot series and the blue packaging refresh that accompanied it.

If Pony Life turns out to be a short-lived thing that we could safely call a 4.5, then the entries can all be moved there. But with a new show, new toy styles different from even the previous toy refresh, and a title that distances itself from "Friendship is Magic", I think we're in a bold new generation.

The fact that we have the same core cast is a side effect of Hasbro wanting to maintain brand recognition more than anything else, I would think.

    1. Too true. The same thing is happening here as in Transformers, where now Optimus Prime and especially Bumblebee is a mainstay of every new series, when before the movies, the last time we seen Bee was in the G1 cartoon.
It's a pity, because this is forgetting that the reason G4 became good was that it broke with the lovey-dovey-samey characters of previous generations and created brand new ones with distinct personalities. They could have done the same, and make a new main six - but instead they just copy-pasted it...
And the whole "slice of life" stuff with short 10 minute episodes, centered on Sugarcube Corner of all places... That sounds terrifyingly like Teen Titans Go where they just goof around in short episodes without a plot, and never fight crime or have a problem to resolve.

    2. Hahaha! You have the nerve to call 3 very diverse generations of MLP full of samey characters when G4 is Mane Suxx ad naseum with 6 stereotyped and flanderized cast members?? Bronies and their ignorant delusions!
