MLP Starsong Playskool Friends Glow Pony Plush Prototype
Let's talk about one of the youngest MLP Lines: The Playskool line, it was 2015 when we saw them for the first time. During that year we were also introduced to the Rainbow Dash Glow Pony, a plush that lights up and makes sound when you press her tummy. So far nothing interesting right?

Well yesterday I went to a French site and noticed a listing with a Glow Pony Starsong as seen above. I though to myself, perhaps it's just a listing for a new Glow Pony, but I couldn't find anything about an upcoming Starsong one. So, what if it's a prototype? Then I looked further and I came to the conclusion: Starsong was supposed to be the Glow Pony plush instead of Rainbow Dash.
I searched some listings, most of them stated Rainbow Dash. but then I found two listings for the Rainbow Dash Glow Pony, on the Canadian Amazon website and the Australian TRU one.

At first glance these just look like your ordinary listings but look at the name of both listings: My Little Pony Starsong (Glow) Pony. Well, perhaps they messed up the listings you might think. But then there's also some other quite solid evidence that Rainbow Dash Took her place. Let's go back to February 2015 when the Playskool line was first announced in a presentation and their line-up was shown.

You see what I see? The first concept art of the Glow Pony was actually Starsong! So I think we can almost safely say that the Starsong that was spotted on the French site is actually a real prototype and that she was supposed to be released first instead of Rainbow Dash. I have no idea why they would replace her eventually with Rainbow Dash. Perhaps because Rainbow Dash is better known with the current generation. (Although Starsong was one of the Core 7 ponies of Generation 3.5) Still I love these kind of mysteries and it's awesome to see a psychical prototype once instead of concept artwork. I wonder where's she's now though... Ah well, maybe she'll eventually get a release in the future.

  1. Her colors aren't very attractive to the eye, may've been one of the reasons.

  2. I'm seeing that the little figurine packs initially included Firefly and G1 Minty rather than the G3 Minty that appeared in the final set. Firefly would have been a pretty cool one to have, and she's actually well known among modern audiences due to her being Lauren Faust's favourite pony. :)
