My LIttle Pony Cutie Mark Crew Series 5 - Makeup ThemedMy LIttle Pony Cutie Mark Crew Series 5 - Makeup Themed
While the series 4 Cutie Mark Crew have started to become available on most continents now, over on a Ukrainian website the first images of the 5th series has been spotted! As we saw on the NY Toy Fair the base idea will remain the same as the current line we saw with series 3 and 4, namely the confetti-filled balloons with a single pony and accessory inside. This time around the ponies have a gradient design, and come with makeup/beauty-themed items. Overall we get to see a lot more mane 6 variants, but some other characters make a return in this set and we get the first release of Sweetie Belle and Zecora (in a rainbowfied form?). The accessories for the ponies are all duplicated once in a different color.

At the website they appear on they're not available at the moment, but seeing as the stock photos are already out we expect these to show up in stores within 6 weeks or so. And if we look at the series 4 figures we can assume these to be priced around $2.99, though the MSRP is probably higher.

  1. Although I'm happy to see another wave of these, I am a bit saddened to see that they've gotten a bit lazy. The "seats" are used twice apiece instead of once (although that's still better than some blind bag toylines). They also seem to be using the gradient gimmick as an excuse to use fewer colors. Look at the hair on Celestia and Sweetie Belle- they're missing colors. Don't get me wrong, I love gradients, but that's not a reason to lower the quality of the other paint.
Perhaps the worst offenders are the Equestria Girls. They look naked! I don't own any to confirm, but it's likely that, like the ponies, their heads are separate pieces. This means that this could have easily been avoided by casting the bodies in a different color to begin with to avoid the skin showing through. This would have made the arms a different color from the face, but I don't think I'm the only one who would prefer that!
Despite all of the complaining that I've done, I think that most of these are pretty cute and am looking forward to the release.
